Meet Our President

Daniel R. Lockwood became the fourth president of Multnomah Bible College and Seminary on June 1, 1997, leaving his position as dean of Multnomah Biblical Seminary in which he had served since 1990.

Lockwood was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1948. As a youth, he attended Central Bible Church under the teaching of Multnomah's founder, John G. Mitchell. Following graduation from Portland Christian High School, he attended Westmont College, earning a bachelor of arts cum laude in 1970. He then attended Dallas Theological Seminary, where he earned the master of theology degree with high honors in 1976. He served as an instructor in the Lay Institute of Dallas Theological Seminary in 1977, and earned his doctorate in systematic theology from Dallas in 1982.

Lockwood joined the Multnomah faculty in 1979, teaching primarily Bible and theology courses, and become known for using gospel illusions to visually present biblical truths. In 1987, he was appointed to the newly formed faculty of Multnomah Biblical Seminary. While dean, Lockwood guided the seminary to accreditation with the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).

Lockwood has held positions as associate pastor, interim pastor, deacon, elder, and adult teacher in his local church. He currently serves as president of the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges, and has chaired accreditation visits for ATS. He is a member of the Fellowship of Evangelical Seminary Presidents and the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS), chairing the ETS Northwest Regional in 1988. He also served as the regional director for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church in 1997-1998.

In addition to an active conference and speaking ministry, Lockwood enjoys long-distance running. He and his wife, Jani, have one daughter, Elise. They attend Lake Grove Presbyterian Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
