The MAT program continues to move forward with the addition of new programs and new start dates. Pending TSPC approval, the education department plans to start a secondary authorization program in the fall of 2008. Then in the spring of 2009, both an elementary and a secondary authorization program will start again. This gives you the option of a fall or spring start date for your program!
Also, five education classes will run this summer that anyone is welcome to take. So if you have a bachelor’s degree, and you want to jumpstart your licensure program or are just interested in developing your teaching skills, take a look at the summer schedule below and sign up for an education class. Classes are small so you will get lots of personalized attention! Come explore the possibilities of becoming a licensed educator!!
"As educators, we will think critically, respond compassionately, and work strategically to impact lives."
Teaching as a profession, and as a way to fulfill the Great Commission, is incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally. If this is indeed the direction you believe God is leading you, we encourage you to consider Multnomah's MAT, the first graduate program at Multnomah University.
If you are a graduate with a B.S. or B.A. from a regionally accredited college or university, you may qualify to apply for admission to Multnomah's MAT program. Call Penny Rader in recruitment for information on costs, program options, start dates, and admissions procedures.
There are three critical strands to the MAT program: coursework, fieldwork, and research and reflection. Each is critical to prepare educators who have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be successful in the teaching profession. For each of these a high value is placed on integrating faith and learning.
Coursework
Over the program, students will engage in coursework that lays a foundation of the fundamentals of teaching and learning, with attention given to developmentally-appropriate content and teaching strategies for the early childhood and elementary classrooms.
Fieldwork
MAT students will also experience field work throughout the program. From observation to full-time responsibility in the classroom, students will have practical experience that prepares them for service in any early childhood or elementary classroom, whether in a private or public, local, national, or international school setting.
Research and Reflection
Students will develop a Master's thesis on an educational topic of their choice which will serve as a focus of their research, discussion, observation, practice, and reflection. It will display the student's ability to research, think, and integrate Biblical truth with current practice and theory. Upon completion of the Master's thesis, the student will present his/her work to a body of peers and faculty members.
