English Minor
Albert Einstein once said: "It is not so very important for a person to learn facts. For that he does not really need a college. He can learn them from books. The value of an education is not learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think something that cannot be learned from textbooks."
The English minor presents exciting possibilities for students, developing them into more aware, engaged, and curious members of society.
The English minor teaches students to appreciate a fuller perspective of literary studies, and appeals to them both intellectually and aesthetically. Studies in the liberal arts challenge students to see textual study (including biblical study) in a fuller way. This program gives students a chance to engage with ideas that have transformed generations of readers, allowing them to enter into a broader discourse with a fascinating community of readers and writers.
The English minor kicks off fall 2007, with six additional courses included in the curriculum by spring 2009. The English minor will consist of 24 hours of classes, giving students the freedom to choose electives within the curricular framework. This minor will draw students who are interested in interpretation/textual meaning, broadening their exposure to great works of literature, becoming better critical thinkers and writers, or simply enjoying a satisfying experience with literary art.
